For over a century, Unger has impressively combined Hanseatic hanseatic tradition with timeless modernity and has thus established itself as a unique address for luxury fashion.

The company was founded by Gustav Wilhelm Unger as a leather goods shop on 11 April 1878 at Grosse Bleichen 65. In the 1930s, the UNGER fashion house belonged to the Jewish entrepreneur Ildefons Auerbach and was ‘Aryanised’ in 1937/38. The company moved to Große Johannisstraße at the end of the 1940s, where it remained for many years.

1983

Unger moves from the stock exchange to its current location at Neuer Wall and develops into one of the leading fashion stores in Germany under the management of Susanne and Michael Braun.

2017

‘The new Unger’ is reflected in a major remodelling of the store. The team will share our vision with you.

2018

Unger celebrates its 140th anniversary and is one of the leading luxury retailers in Germany with Unger am Neuen Wall, Uzwei and Unger-Fashion.com. Today, Unger stocks over 150 international designer brands, employs 120 staff and has shop-in-shop agreements with Dior, Céline, Chloé, Stella McCartney, Roger Vivier and Tory Burch.

2019

UZWEI celebrates Stella McCartney's new spring/summer 2019 collection with a glamorous party at Grünspan in Hamburg.

2020

The UNGER Fashion Concierge was launched in 2020 and offers a very special service for our Hamburg customers.

The capsule collection ‘Große Freiheit’ was created in September 2023 from the long-standing friendship between Iris von Arnim and Unger, as well as their shared great love for their hometown.

The autumn/winter 2023 campaign is all about understated luxury.

2024

The Spring/Summer 2024 campaign was shot at the historic Quinta da Bella Vista in Sintra and focuses on preppy chic, urban laissez-faire and casual luxury. The estate, which was once the home of the famous British writer and father of Sherlock Holmes Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and its lush grounds were the perfect backdrop for our current spring and summer collection, which is fashionably varied but stylistically very UNGER.
